Sometimes, I find that observing familiar things through a purely visual perspective is a fascinating process. "Go," for example, is an abstract strategy board game, the oldest in the world, created in China more than 2,500 years ago. I learned this game at the age of 8 and have explored it throughout my life. However, when I no longer just see Go pieces as tools for playing games, and the board as a playing field, the "shape" of Go itself intrigues me more and more.
This series shares the process of how I transform viewing methods to observe quotidian things. The first image changes the color of the pieces and the board to provide a starting point for the audience and myself to perceive the work from a visual angle. The second alter the pieces' colors to warm and cool instead of two distinct colors to make the work seem more holistic. The following images divide the board and pieces into varying degrees of chromaticity, suggesting that the audience can see the two-dimensional plane turning into a three-dimensional space. I hope audiences can follow these steps, seeing them without recalling the original meaning of Go, but instead appreciating the works in a purely visual way.
