Put With Me
Glass bottles, ink, spotlights, a camera, and a projector, 2019
This interactive work required a live audience to be completed. As shown in the middle of the picture, the positions of the lights, camera, and projector were fixed, and the camera was connected to the projector. In this way, the projector can show the picture in the camera to the audience in real-time. The audience could choose different-colored bottles from the shelf, arrange them in a space covered by a white cloth, and then compare the real and projected versions of their own unique creations.
I consider this work as similar to my painting series "Red, Yellow and Blue", which feature color blocks arranged in different spaces. However, in this work, I use ready-made products and electronic devices to propel a media exploration. I hoped that the audience could experience the visual difference between viewing in 3D (real bottles) and 2D (projected visions), and participate further in my exhibition by transitioning from a viewer to a creator.
Starting from this work, I tried to make the exhibition more engaging for audiences to arouse their interests and leave an impression in their minds. Making the interactive works is the first thought that came to my mind that may help to achieve this intent. Therefore, with this idea, I made this work, hoping by this work, people can develop a desire to get to know what I am doing and watch my works in a more relaxing way.
